Please consider supporting the Visual and Performing Arts programs at Flagler College. This fund supports art, theater, music, and graphic design by providing the students with scholarships, programmatic needs, mentorship/leadership programming so that students can pursue their academic and career interests in the arts.
The first visual arts program was established in 1969, during Flagler College’s second year as an institution. In addition to this Fine Arts major, Graphic Design was established in 1984. Both majors offer the option of the Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) degree. The major in Art History was instituted in 2011, with the establishment of two of Flagler College’s first interdisciplinary minors in Film Studies (2015) and Arts Administration (2016) in its wake. The curriculum throughout the Visual Arts program remains relevant and competitive through continuous review and updating. Courses such as Motion Graphics, Video Art, and Race Visual Culture reflect the most up-to-date technical, conceptual, material, and theoretical practices in these disciplines.
Originally created as two separate departments, Theatre Arts and Visual Arts, the decision to combine the two into one was the result of structural reorganization in Academic Affairs in 2018. Combining the "arts" into one department within the School of Creative Arts and Letters seemed to be a natural choice.
