The Hugh Shaw Scholarship Endowment was established in memory of Hugh Shaw, a beloved member of the Flagler College Class of 1983, whose life was tragically cut short in an automobile accident. His family and friends came together to honor his legacy by funding this scholarship and organizing the Hugh Shaw Memorial Longboard Classic, an annual event that celebrates his love of surfing.
Since its founding in 1984, this scholarship has supported Florida residents who are juniors or seniors majoring in Philosophy, Religion, or Social Science, with an emphasis on Youth Ministry. Students must also demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.

For 40 years, the Flagler surf family has gathered to honor Hugh Shaw’s memory through this daylong "expression session", bringing together alumni, students, faculty, and friends of all ages for friendly competition, community, and camaraderie.
